Welcome all of my crafty friends!

Hey!  Thanks for visiting once again.  This month I fell in love with the ideas of rainbows.  I wanted to see just how well I could use the rainbow theme in my coloring and I challenged myself to attempt rainbow hair!
Today I'm going to show you how to make this cute little gift envelope using Chibi Unicorn Blythe.    Most of the time we make cards to put in envelopes, but how often to we decorate the outside for a cute note or a simple gift to go inside?  Me being me...I wanted to turn the craft inside out.   Don't forget you can click on any of the images below to enlarge and see better detail.  Let's get started.

Coloring the Image

Skin:  E000, E11, E13, E04, PC1082

I always begin with the skin coloring.  For the skin to work I pulled in my color pencils.  This helped give the piece even more depth of color in the shadows since I was able to get some fine coloring into some of the smaller spaces.

Hair, Stockings & Lollipop:  RV02, RV06, YR61, YR65, Y02, Y08, YG11, YG41, BG10, BG11, B000, B01, V12, V15

As you can see, I used a lot of colors for the hair.  I used a light and a slightly darker dolor of the same color group. When coloring take your time...start with the lighter colors first.  then add definition with the darker colors in small amounts. Make sure not to overpower the image with too much emphasis.  For the lollipop i only used the lighter shades of colors since I did not want that to have too much focus.

Stars & Horn:  Y11, Y17, YR23, Y26, White Gelli Pen

I make a gold effect on the horns and stars of the hair and clothes by using varying shades of yellow with a slightly orangish color to it and finished it off with Gelli pen to add some shine.
Dress: B32, B34, B37

I decided I wanted more of a Rainbow Brite type of feel to this character, so I went with a blue dress.  It gave it a darker feel that allowed the rainbow colors to show better.  At least that's what I think.

Boots:  E17, E15,k E27

For some reason I saw the boots and thought UGGs.  Why not, I made them a nice and simple tan, remembering to follow the light directions with the rest of my image.
White Cotton Details: W1

This was fairly simple and straight forward.  I just wanted to add in some shadows to the white cotton of the arms, neck and bottom of the dress.

Eyes:  YG03, YG17, YG67

I love green eyes.  I think it gives so much character and color.  With Anime and Chibi characters, their eyes are so big, that this just allows the colors to pop.

Pulling The Rainbow Together

Now that the coloring has been completed.  It's time to bring constructing the envelope.  This really doesn't take much time at all since the majority of the work was done by my Cricut.  What usually takes the most time is selecting the image cutting files I want to go along with my image since I like to keep the theme.  Rainbow is a big part of the theme, but so are the stars.   I felt that since there were so many on the outfit, it would be a perfect background accent.
The first thing you want to work is the base.  This will be envelope.  Simply fold it and glue down the side and bottom flaps.  Then glue the bow piece to the top of the envelope according to the shape.  I used adhesive velcro for the closure to make my life easy.

Now begin work on the stars by adhering the black base to the star pieces.  Add 3D adhesive dots to the back of each star and place them on the front of the envelope.

The next detail is this cute heart rainbow.  It comes in several layers that need to be glued together before we can glue it down directly onto the envelope with the end of the rainbow just behind the small star.

Finally we are ready to place our image down.  Using foam mounting tape I mounted my images on top of my larger star to finish off the project.   We are now ready to slip in a gift card, some cash or even a picture as a gift for someone special!
