Mask Shortage! Crafters of the world unite!
Hi Everyone! I wanted to share this sooner, but having to prepare for staying at home and working, has made this more difficult. I'm sure by now you all know there is a Personal Protective Equipment shortage due to the COVID-19 outbreak. We need face masks. I work in the medical field and the race to purchase masks and ventilator supplies has been unbelievable. Unfortunately most of these items were being manufactured in China. MediLine (one of my companies suppliers) had to shut down their warehouse in China due to the outbreak. This was a major supplier across the nation. Yes there is a shortage of masks and using cloth masks will be a last resort, but it is coming.
You can find more information at Joann.com. You can also search the web. There are hospitals who are asking people to make masks with certain specifications. Here in Los Angeles clothing manufacturers are stepping up to the plate, but that doesn't mean they are not in need in other states. You can also visit 100 Million Mask Challenge for monetary donations.
There are some guidelines hospitals have issued the types of masks they would like. Most would like to have a pocket in the mask to have a disposable filter, they must be pre-washed to prevent shrinkage, and there are two types of patterns. I have made a pattern to download below and instructions. The instructions do not have a pocket instruction, but can be easily converted.
