Wow!  Welcome back everyone!  we are trudging along here and the year is coming to an end!  Its moving so quickly that I can hardly keep my head above it all.   Christmas is now just around the corner and I can hardly make to make some treats as gifts!

One of my favorite things to do for the holidays is to make little gift boxes to my family, friends and staff.  This year I decided I wanted to make a milk carton so  I developed the Milk Carton SVG.  Here is what I cam e up with.  Below are the items you will need to make this creation.
Picture
  • O Christmas Tree digital image
  • Snowman Bliss digital paper
  • Milk Carton SVG file
  • Copic markers
  • Die Cutting Machine
  • Navy blue ribbon
  • Liquid glue
  • Foam squares/dots
  • hole puncher

O My Christmas Tags!

To begin, I used my the pint and cut feature of my Cricut machine.  This allowed me to print my image onto the tag that comes with the milk carton.
First we will start with the coloring of our image.
Picture
Snowman Body:
B32
Colorless blender

I used the color less blender to lighten up my blue around the edges.
Snow:
B00

I used this along the edges of the snow and to cast shadows here and there on the white snow.

Sky:
B0000
Like the rest of my coloring, I'm leaving white to show through as it is the color most prevalent in the winter with hints of blues reflected.   I used the same effect in the sky.
Hat:
C3, C5, C7, C9

Here is where we begin to add in some color.  Just be mindful that black isn't always just black but shades of grey.

Carrot:
Y38, YR68

Even for the carrot I chose to use two colors rather than just one since it is my feature image.   It needs some depth.
Ribbon and Berries:
R14, R89, R37, R29

I graduated the colors from lightest to darkest away from the light source and used the darkest color (single) for the berries.

Wood:
E27, E49

With this I chose only to colors since it's small parts of the image, but still wanted some depth.
Eye:
B05

This is a small feature and doesn't need much, but since this blue is such a stunning color it really just pops.

Scarf:
B34, B37

For the scarf I ended up with blues, but I ran with a much darker and more saturated color to make it stand out against the rest of the blue images.
Tree & Holly:
YG17, YG67

With this I only utilized the dark green to add shadows here and there.  I also used the dark green just the holly leaves on the hat.

Christmas lights:
YG05, , Y04, Y38, B05

I used single colors for each light.  You can add a touch of white JelliRoll pen if you like later, but for me it was a bit too small to add anything.
Ornaments:
R14, R29

This is a two color in order to give the effect of light being cast down on the ornaments.  You can also add a hint of white JelliRoll here too if you wish.

Star:
Y00, Y04, Y15

For the star I used the lightest as my base and the mid tone on the spokes of the star and the darkest tone along the edges for accents.  I also used the darkest to create light rays around the star.
Bulb Attachments & Stone Button:
C5, C9
The final touches are added by coloring in the bulb attachments with c5.  Then using both  C5 and C9 on the button stone.

Almost done with the tag.  The last thing to do is add the sentiment.   This sentiment comes with the image and like the rest of the items in the shop this is ready to cut with the print and cut feature.  It comes with an offset as you can see.  The sentiment is printed with a white area surrounding it.  Using foam squares I adhered this to the tag to allow the sentiment to really pop and not be melded into the tag.

And How Do I Put My Box Together?

So now we are ready to move on and make our Milk Carton.  I set the milk carton to cute at 8.706" W x 6.571" H.  This was the perfect size to use the print and cut feature since I wanted to use a digital pattern for this.  I set it to print with the pattern from the Snowman Bliss paper pack.   Once it was cut I just needed to simply put it together.  Below is the video tutorial for the assembly of the box.

The Finishing Touches!

Now we are down to the final steps.  Here is where you can add a little something.  I decided that I wanted to seal my box using a ribbon since I used the tag that comes with the SVG file.
1. Make 2 hole punches at the top.

2. Thread your ribbon through.

3. Tie your bag to the top of your box.

And here you have it!

This is a simple way to make great gifts and the fact that you are using a die cutting machine to make these items makes it so much easier to make quantity.

I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial.  Come back and visit again soon!
