Learn To Make Lemonade
When Life Give You Lemons

Hello everyone and welcome back to HeartcraftPaper!  I'm so glad that you can join me today since we have a little something special.  Sugartree Stamps is hosting a New Release Blog Hop.  As a part of this event I made a scene card.  For this card I used a digital image from their May release.  I hope that you can join in on the fun and hop along.  There will be a giveaway as a part of this hop along.  A random winner will be selected from comments left on this blog and other blog hop stops. Each blog comment will increase your chance to win.  The Prize: Your choice of 3 digital stamp sets from Sugartree Stamps. Last entry by 11:59 pm on 5/31/18.  Winner to be announced on  6/7/18.  Winner will be contacted via email and announced on the a2z winners post.

Click on the image below to head on over the a2z Scrapbooking Blog to keep hopping on.

When first I saw Sweet Tea Jar image, it reminded me of a warm summer afternoon sitting outside at a picnic table.  I took that idea and ran with it.  This is a simple single layer scene card which means that you will mostly need coloring supplies.

Here is a list of the items you will need:
  • Images:  Sweet Tea Jar  & Lemon (printed on 5 1/2" L x 4 1/4" W cardstock aprox 2 in. tall)
  • Sentiment: You Are The Lemon In My Lemonade (aprox 1" wide)
  • 1 - A2 CardBbase
  • Copic Markers (colors listed below)
  • Blooming Tree Stencil
  • Fancy Stitched Label Dies
  • Pencil
  • Copic .1 Fine Line pen
  • Ruler
  • Tacky Glue

***Click on any of the smaller images below view a larger image.

Let's get to squeezing some lemons!

Picture

First we are going to begin with coloring in our main image.   For this I used several yellows.

Lemonade:  Y000, Y00, Y02, Y04, 0

Lemons:  Y000, Y00, Y04, Y06, Y15, YR27

Straw: R14

Next I worked the ice cubes.  Since I wanted them to have a transparency to it I used my least saturated yellow and blues and diluted them even further with my colorless blender.

Ice Cubes:  Y000, B0000, 0

Now that our main image is completed we will have to draw out our scene.  As I indicated earlier my inspiration was a warm sunny day at a picnic table, so that is what I drew first.  I decided that I would also ad in a small checkerboard printed cloth to the table to give a little something more to the scene.

Don't forget to use your ruler for this your table and cloth.  Once the penciling is done, use the Copic Fine Line pen and the ruler to trace over the pencil markings.  Once that is done you will erase to remove any pencil markings that may show through.

Moving right along, I began by coloring in the cloth in which the sun would hit directly (the top)  I used R14 and C00 down to the table edge.

I then came in and added in R29 and C4 below the table edge where the sunlight would hit less.  With this you will get the effect that the cloth is draped over the edge of the table.

For the table I used three colors to keep it simple.

E23:  Table Top
E27:  Table Side
E29:  Details (to create wood paneling along the top of the table)
Picture
I wanted to add in some depth to this and decided it needed a tree rather than just a blue sky in the background.  I had a wonderful stencil from Craftin Desert Divas that was perfect for it.
Using a pencil lightly trace the image.
Fill in the trunk using E35 (base), E17 (shadows), E27 (details).

Finally fill in the tree canopy.

Stenciled Leaves:  YG17, YG67, G28

Canopy Background:  YG61,

Canopy Small Detail leaves:  YG63 & YG67

Using B0000, fillin the sky in the background.  This doesn't have to be billed into perfection because it will allow some spots of white to show through and give the sky some texture as if a cloud is hanging in the sky.

Affix your scene to your A2 card base so that you can add in  your finishing touches.

This is the final leg!  Using the  small oval die from the Fancy Stitched Label Dies, I cut out my sentiment:  You are the Lemon in my Lemonade.  I adhered that  to my card on the lower right hand corner and you are set.
