An Ode To Coffee

On a Spring morning I wake to the aroma of you.
Your dark color and rich flavor are things I enjoy too.
When sleep has dragged me down and pulled me under.
You ensure that I wake from my slumber.
A dollop of milk and lump of sugar make the flavor rich and sweet.
I breath you in awaiting my treat.
As soon as the warm liquid hits passes my lips,
The birds sing and bring joy on their wing tips.
Oh Coffee!
You are my Morning Glory.

---Monica Martinez

Hi everyone and welcome!  I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend full of coffee and crafting!  I now I am.  I also hope you enjoyed my little Ode To Coffee.  Today I have a little something special in store for you.  This card means quiet a lot to me since I made the image myself.  The idea came to me one day during a DT chat and a latte image that was shared.  I thought, "Boy coffee sure is morning glory!"  With that I decided i would make something of it.  I know that I'm not the best artist around, but I figure that the simple lines will be just a frame.  It's what will happen when I color it!

This was not supposed to be shared just yet, as I have special news in store for you all soon. So don't forget to subscribe (it's that little pink bubble that is following you down the page).  That being said, I am using this image for the Coffee Lovers Blog Hope and the theme is Spring/Summer Coffee.

With that!  I think we are ready to continue on.  Here you will find step by step details on how to make this card.

Preparing The Coffee

Now that you have everything you need, you are now ready to begin crafting!

We will start by printing of four image to be 3" tall.  This will make the image to be about 2.5" wide.  Using the largest of the Label 33 dies, we will die cut out our image.  This will make the cut measure 3.3" x 4.6".

Now here comes the fund part.  We will begin with the base items.

Sky:  B0000

Latte Cup:  E40, E30, E31 E33

Please note that I have used the darker colors along the edges to add depth and shadows.

For a lot of my images I like to use color pencils.  This is because I can add finer details.

Beak:  R30, R32, PC1054 (for details)

Body Base coloring:  B0000, B000, B32

B000 was used to cover the whole body and for blending once I added in my darker shades.

This is my favorite part of the whole thing.   The hummingbird!  Now that we have laid down the base colors we are going to add in the different colors of this lovely little bird.

B06, BG15, C4, PC 1054, White Gelly Pen.

This pencil was used to make the feather details of the individual feathers.

Here is the image that I used for my coloring.  As with most of my real life colorings I like to have a reference photo so that I can get the colors as best I can.  I know it's not exact, but at least it has some semblance.

Once the hummingbird is filled in, we will work our coffee top next.

I used E72 as the base color.  On the inset part of the list I used E29 and E49 to add shadows.  Then came in with PC935 to add in a line detail to create a break and darken up any shadows created by the flower.

We are now really moving along.  Thankfully This didn't have much detail to it, but for my own coloring. :P

For the leaves and vines, I used YG17, YG67, G28.  For the details and darker shadows I used PC935.

Here comes the fun part!  The flowers!  At first I thought this might be a bit on the tricky side, but It worked out just fine!

Flower:  V000, V01, V04, V09, PC 1026, White Gelly Pen

Stamen: PC1011 (this was the last step)

This is the image I used for reverence.  Well at least one of them.  I tend to google my items and then view them as I'm coloring.

Now all that's left is drawing out a table top for the background.

Table:  E23, E17 PC947

Shadow: E15

Bringing The Mix Together

Woohoo!  We are ready to start pulling together the card!

The first step is to glue down you brown printed paper to the card base.  I used tacky glue for this rather than double sided tape since I really wanted it to adhere.

Using one of the 5" x 7" white card stock you will use the Chantilly Paper Lace frame for die cutting.  I didn't add any other color or blending to this since I wanted it to contract with the printed paper.  Keep it simple since you want your image to stand out.  Again, I used tacky glue to glue this down to the card.

Now adhere the image to the center of the die piece.  I used foam mounting tape for this to give it a bit of height.

For the final details to this card I wanted to add some flowers.  I had just purchased a new die set and figured this would be the perfect opportunity to try them out.

for this I used the Cinch and Go Flowers.   Using the remaining white cardstock, I cut three of the grouped flower sets and one of each of the free standing.  For the backing I trimmed 3 green pieces.
Picture

Lets add a little color to them.  I figured that I would match the colors to that of the morning glory.  I used Shaded Lilac across the whole of the flower and Wilted Violet on edges.
Picture
We are almost done.  Once the coloring is done.  I then began to shape my flowers using the McGill Paper Blossom Tool Kit.  for this rather than dow it inwards, I only shaped the back of the petals and then folded the petals towards the center on the colored side.  Using a brad I put them all tother and then colored the brad with a Copic Marker: Y04

Finally we want to use foam mounting tape on the back of our flowers to adhere them diagonally from each other.  For whatever reason sets of 3 always looks appealing to the eye.  So the largest and one of the other flowers was used in the lower left corner and a singular flower on the upper right.  I finished this off by adding some adhesive pears from larges to smallest on both sides of the flowers.

Here is a look at the final product.  I think that the simplicity allows the image to stand out.
