A flower can say it all with beauty and simplicity.

Welcome back everyone!

Picture
I wanted to share this simple and cute card I made for my Craftin Desert Divas DT post that we share on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on the CDD Gallery.  It's a great place to share and post for CDD products.  There is also the CCD Monthly Mood Board Challenge that is linked on the sidebar.

Also don't forget to follow along on the HeartcraftPaper Page and Gallery linked in the buttons on the sidebar as well if you also want to get news of whats going on with HCP.

The reason I was inspired to make this card is that I wanted to show how you can make  a quick 15 minute card that is beautiful and simple.  Because there is not a lot of coloring necessary in much detail this will be very easy and quick.  There are really only two parts to this flower...the flowers and the leaves.   Because I used this for my Wednesday Coloring tips in CDD, I had the opportunity to make out pictograph for the colors for both flowers and leaves.

Lets gather all the things you will need to make this project.
  • Hello Beautiful Stamp Set
  • Fancy Frame Dies
  • Scalloped Stitched In Circle Dies
  • Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide
  • Adhesive Pearls
  • 1/2 double sided foam tape
  • A2 Card BAse
  • 2 White cardstock 5 1/2" x 4 1/4"
  • Prismacolor color pencils (colors depicted below)

So as you can see it doesn't really require much  in terms of supplies.  It's mostly a simple card to put together.  Even the coloring is fairly straight forward.

** click on any of the small pictures to enlarge

Before I started coloring, as you can tell from my images, I cut out a scalloped circle in white cardstock using the Scalloped Stitched In Circle Dies.  On that cut out I stamped out my image and sentiment.  This made my work that much easier.
One of the things you will notice when using Prismacolors is that they are highly blendable.  You do not require a colorless blender or a blending tool much for these colors.  Simply use the next color in the color palette to blend.  (i.e. use PC930 to blend out PC937)

Here is a video for you to view if your new to color pencils and to better understand the blending techniques.  (HeartcraftPaper YouTube Channel)

The color for the rose petals are  as follows:

PC937:   Shadows & Details
PC930:   Dark Tone
PC929:   Mid Tone
PC1014: Light Tone
PC938:   Hightlights & Blending
Picture
Picture
1. We will begin with PC930.  This will be used in the areas that are the darkest colors and receive the least amount of light.  I usually like to pull up pictures of the glowers I am working with so that I get a general knowledge of how color flow is.

Picture
2. Next we will draw out the darker color with PC929 as it will begin our gradation from dark to light.  Using this color, blend (overlap) PC930 outwards.
Picture
3. Using the lighter of the three shades of pink, PC1014, extent the Mid Tone color out. leaving a bit of white around the edges.  Depending on where sunlight would typically hit.  Use this to blend the PC929.
Picture
4.  Add in your highlights to your flower using the white color pencil.  Use the white to blend out the all colors.  This helps to spread the colors so that it will have a soft gradation.
Picture
5.  Lets add in some details and shadows.  We will use PC932.  There will be no blending for this, but I add some detail lines up the flower bud and along any edges which would cast a slight shadow
Picture
6. Last and final step for the flower stamen.  I just added in a simple yellow PC1012.

Now you are ready to move into the leaves. Bear in mind that we will use the same technique for the leaves as we did for the flowers.

Alright!!! We are right on track and moving onto the leaves.  This will follow the same pattern as the roses.  Not much difference there.

Here are the colors you will need for the leaves:

PC189:   Shadow & Details
PC109:   Dark Tone
PC912:   Mid Tone
PC1005: Light tone
PC989:   Highlights

Now for this we will not use whites as greens don't usually tend to lighten as much as pinks do.
Picture
Picture
1. We will begin with PC989.  This will be used in the areas that are the lightest colors and receive the most amount of light. Don't forget to reference a picture to get a general idea. This will be your highlights at the tips of the leaves.
Picture
2. Next we will draw out the lighter color with PC1005 as it will begin our gradation from light to dark.  In this step we will not yet blend out the colors too much as they are very similar.
Picture
3. Using the darker of the three shades of green, PC912, extent the Mid Tone color out. This color will extend all the way to the base of the leaves and the stems.  You can use PC1005 to blend together to make a gentle gradation effect.
Picture
4.  Now we will brnig in some dark coloring with PC109. This will be towards the base of the leaves and part of the stems that are closest to the flowers.
Picture
5.  Finally, lets add in some details and shadows using PC908.  Again There will be no blending for this, but I add some detail lines up the leaves along the veins and along the base of the leaves.

It's Construction Time!

We are now ready to begin pulling our card together now that we have completed our coloring.

To begin we will start with our white card in 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".  We will blend on some Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide onto our paper to add color to the whole thing.  Once it is blended to the color intensity that you would like you will die cut out your backing using the Fancy Frame Dies.  I like this die in particular because of the stitched detailing it also gives.
Picture
Next we will use double sided foam tape to cover the entire back of our die cut.  This will offer up stability to your card during mailing.  Center the card onto you A2 card base and set it down.
Picture
Picture
Now all that is left is to Glue down you Sentiment piece in the center and add some pearl embellishments!

Wow!  how easy was that and look at the simple, yet beautiful card!.
