Lately I have been seeing shadow box card popping up left and right. Lawn Fawn, Crafting Desert Divas and a few more companies are selling the die set to make these cards. I love that they try to make things easier for people, but in all honesty you don't truly need a set of dies specifically to make a shadow box. I made mine on a Cricut using the dimension I can to make it by hand. Now if you choose to get the dies, there is nothing wrong with that at all, it basically all follows the same format for putting it all together. The great part of all of this is that you are only limited by your imagination. The number of printed patterns you can use to make your cards, or maybe you want an embossed one. The possibilities are endless. This card consists of three sections (a front, middle and base). The only dies you will need are nesting dies. The top and bottom card measure 8"w x 5"t. Score 11/2" from each end of the card along the width (score at 1 1/2" and 6 1/2 Inch). The middle section measures 6 1/2"w x 5"t. Score 3/4" from each end fo the card along the width (score at 3/4" and 5 3/4"). The only dies you need are nesting dies. Pick the largest that will fit between the shorelines with about 1/2" allowance, give or take. Then select the next size down for the middle section. Start by die cutting the top layer with the largest die selected. Center it between the shorelines evenly and cut. Next you will lay the top layer over the middle layer (centered) so you can align the second die in the center of the middle layer and cut. Now you are ready for assembly. See the video below for assembly instructions. This is the fun part coming up!
